Conversion Facility
In July 2025 Frontier announced DFS launched for Thunder Bay Lithium Conversion Facility; awarded to Fluor Canada Ltd. to assess refinery design, costs, and environmental planning using Frontier’s own and third-party feedstock. Island in Thunder Bay, Ontario, covering 183 acres of prime heavy industrial property.
In March 2025, Frontier announced that both the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario had expressed their intention to support our planned Lithium Conversion Facility in Thunder Bay. This support will help cover a portion of the capital expenditures required for the facility’s construction. Frontier is now working with the respective agencies to finalize the related contribution agreements.
Frontier Lithium is developing Ontario’s first fully integrated lithium chemical conversion facility, located on Mission Island in Thunder Bay. This world-class plant will convert spodumene concentrate from our PAK Project and other potential sources into battery-grade lithium salts, including lithium hydroxide, meeting the surging demand from North American electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage markets.
PDAC Announcement
The Conversion Facility announcement took place during PDAC 2025 at the Canadian Pavilion, featuring speakers such as the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Vic Fedeli, Ontario's Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and Takeshi Matsunaga, Consul-General of Japan in Toronto.
Minister Wilkinson stated, "We are focused not simply on mining, but on end-to-end supply chains."
Minister Fedeli emphasized, "Our government is prepared to make bold decisions that will position Ontario as one of the best places in the world to invest, to grow and to create jobs through strategic partnerships, such as the one we are acknowledging here today."
Trevor R. Walker, President & Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Lithium, remarked, "Today marks a significant milestone in our journey to establish fully integrated lithium operations in Northwestern Ontario."
